Indigenous Made: Using Organic Materials in Metal Smithing

Indigenous Made: Using Organic Materials in Metal Smithing In-Person

Learn how to use organic materials alongside silversmith techniques to create your own pendant and necklace. Indigenous artist, Rykelle Kemp, will discuss how these materials have been used by her tribes in jewelry making and how she is revitalizing the use of such materials in contemporary designs.

While discussing and talking about the materials attendees will get hands-on practice with materials such as black abalone shell and mother of pearl. Attendees are encouraged (but not required) to bring in a few shells that you would like to make into a jewelry piece. Materials and tools will be provided. Free & ages 16 and up are welcome.
